POPPY ROQUET COMPETITION

A grand total of £316.95 was raised today for the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Many thanks to all those who took part in making this the best year yet for our fund raising challenge!

Winner Pauline Hennell being presented with the magnificant trophy for the Poppy Roquet Competition

The first round of this year's Poppy Roquet took place after the Wednesday Competition and 27 club members took part. This is the 3rd year that we have run this very popular Poppy Roquet competition, instigated by Brian Storey, who presented the beautiful trophy of a ceramic poppy, one of the many that adorned the Tower of London in 2014, to Bowdon Croquet Club on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 1. It was run in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and, each year, it goes from strength to strength.

In the first 3 years we have raised over £800, so many thanks to all those who took part in this fun event even if you did not think you had a chance of winning.

Members had another chance of entering the competition as we, again, ran it on
Saturday, 12th November, immediately after the AGM at around 1pm and 16 members took part, some having another go. Many thanks went to
Jo Pierpoint, Pauline Hennell & Kay Martin for making sandwiches available for those who took part.

The event took the form of a series of 4 shots at each of 4 targets that were placed 6, 12, 15 and 20 yards away. The winner is the person who scores the most roquets; they are then entitled to hold the trophy for a year before having to organise the following year's event!
