CHARITY
POPPY ROQUET COMPETITION, NOVEMBER 2015

After
last year's inaugural competition, the charity Poppy Roquet
competition in aid of the Royal British
Legion poppy appeal was again run on over 2 days:
- Wednesday, 4th
November, saw 32 competitors take part after the Winter
One-Ball competition, and attempt to roquet another ball
from varying distances (5, 10, 15 & 20 yards), having
4 attempts at each distance; the event was organised by
last year's winner, Alan Mayne, and £192 was raised
towards the fund from entries and donations.
- Saturday, 7th November (at
1pm), for those who could not make Wednesday (or who
wanted to donate again and have another go!), resulted in
another £76 being raised, making a
grand total of £268.05 raised for this
worthy cause.
The eventual
winner was Ken Cooper, who managed to hit 11 balls in his
total of 16 shots, with 3 players equal second: Francois
Garcia, Carol Sinclair & Peter Taylor with 8 hits. I
think everyone will agree that it was a lot of fun and the
winner will hold, for one year, one of the ceramic poppies
that were on display at the Tower of London last year, which
was obtained by Brian Storey who initiated this annual
event.
