GOLFERS
ENJOY A BREAK IN RIPON
Ros
Pimlott arranged an enjoyable golf croquet break
at Ripon from 3rd to 5th September. Those who came
were Ros and Ken Pimlott, Carol Kelsall, Carol
Sinclair, John Leckie, John and Mosey Knight,
Lynda Healey, Jacky Davies and Margaret Moss from
Bowdon, and Joan Hancock from Bury. The
surroundings were very pleasant, with a bank of
trees behind the lawns. There were lots of singles
and doubles games, giving practice at hoops and
hitting in, as well as tactics. Other activities
were listening to the hornblower blowing his horn
towards each corner of the market square at 9 p.m,
and then entertaining the international crowd with
his humour afterwards; visiting the cathedral,
where the fifteenth century misericords inspired
Lewis Carroll, and where there was an art
exhibition; shopping at the market; Margaret’s
birthday tea; playing gateball, a Japanese game
inspired by croquet; playing charades; and joint
story-telling.
