BEGINNERS CORNER
BEGINNERS' CORNER
As you are about to embark on your first full
season of competitive play, it may be worth taking a few
moments to refresh your memory about handicap play. There
have been a couple of articles written by Mike Steer which you
might find very helpful to you our Ground Manager also wishes
you to be aware of the lawn usage rules.
Handicap Cards
You must ensure that you carry a handicap card with you at
all times as this may be requested of you by a club
handicapper at short notice. If you do not have one, then
please politely ask any member of the committee or senior
member of the club to provide you with one. That person should
be able to set it up for you correctly at the right level. You
must record all of your competitive games on it, e.g. internal
club competitions, ladder matches and Solomon Grundy games,
plus any games that you may have whilst representing the club
against another club. Should your handicap go through a
trigger point during the day, your handicap will only alter at
the end of the day. Mike's
notes on the subject can be read by clicking here.
Bisque Taking
The maximum handicap that you will given will be 24. There
is a considerable range of handicaps within the club going
right down to -2. This means that in a Silver Box game you may
be confronted by such a good player BUT DO NOT WORRY, it means
that you will have 26 bisques to use to beat your opponent!
And this can be done by using your bisques correctly. Mike's notes on
the subject can be read by clicking here.
Lawn Rota
Please be aware that when you play a game you must adhere
to the lawn rota that is displayed on the white board in the
clubhouse window by the door. This shows whether we are on
Week 1 or Week 2. Inside, on the wall above the ball rack,
there is written the order in which the lawns must be used:
- Week 1 is 4 3 1. This means that lawn 4 must be used
first, then lawn 3; a second game can start on lawn 4 and
another on lawn 3 BEFORE any game can start on lawn 1. Any
spare lawns can be used for practise.
Week 2 is 3 4 1. The same rules apply as per
Week 1.
BEST OF LUCK!
