Christine and Colin Irwin have recently played a tournament at the National Croquet Centre in West Palm Beach, Florida. Here is how they got on, with comments taken from their Sarasota County Croquet Club newsletter.
 "SCCC member Christine Irwin took first place and a check for $800 in the second flight of the Chuck Steuber Invitational tournament played at in West Palm Beach in late February. The event is now in its sixth year and is played as a five-flight singles competition. This year the total purse was $9,000 with prize money up for grabs for those coming first or second in their flight. The Championship Flight was played to Association rules with the other flight played to US 6-Wicket rules. Christine, playing to 6-Wicket rules, won all five games in her block to put her in first position going into Sunday’s knock-out ladder. Again she was successful and came away undefeated." |
 "Two balls are in the air as Colin Irwin puts the yellow ball in play in the final game of the Championship Flight in the Winter Invitational. Alan Cottle had left the blue ball in the jaws at the first wicket. Colin hit a low jump shot that drove the blue ball through the wicket and sent the yellow ball far down the field". |

Before anyone gets
any ideas of making a fast buck or two, the entry fee was $300 per head
and on top of that there was the hotel and food for 3 nights, so Colin
& Chris probably lost out overall!
