David Walters receives the trophy from Barbara Young

David Walters won the NW Federation Millennium Advanced Weekend at Heaton Park on Sunday with 5 wins out of 6; runner-up was Ken Cooper, also on 5/6 but with fewer ranking points from the games played. Heavy rain flooded the lawns on the second day and curtailed the number of games played. The event was played as a giant Egyptian instead of the usual A and B groups as it was not possible to conveniently split the players. Roger Schofield won the 'B' cup for the most tournament rating points gained over the weekend. Other Bowdon players taking part were Andrew Winn and Francois Garcia.
