WINTER ONE-BALL COMPETITIONS
The lawns are now closed for Association and Golf Croquet matches. However, a limited amount of lawn space will be available throughout the winter when there will be at least two short lawns available everyday, weather permitting.

A series of 1-ball croquet days will be arranged by Alan Mayne to go through the winter months as well as an ongoing Short Croquet league:
         - every Wednesday there will be a 1-ball handicap competition using full lawns, meeting at 10.30am for an 11.00am start;  the overall
            result of the Winter Wednesday 1-ball competition will be assessed on the best 6 results throughout the winter.

          - there will be a mixture of handicap and advanced 1-ball competitions on certain weekends, meeting at 10.30am for an 11.00am start:
                               * Handicap: Saturday 24th October, Sunday 22nd November
                               * Advanced/Handicap: Sunday 8th November, Saturday 5th December
          - 2 Short Croquet leagues will be ongoing throughout November to February with the finals in March, played whenever games can be
            conveniently arranged.

SHORT CROQUET LEAGUE
Alan Mayne has managed to fill two blocks of ten for the Winter Short Croquet League.
Block A: Patrick Cheyne, Pam Sword, John Saxby, Jean Teare, Terry Foster, Chris Lewis, Francois Garcia,
               John Leckie, Margaret Russell & Barry McKenzie.

Block B: Louise Cheyne, Jane Wilkinson, David Holland, Ros Pimlott, Steve Reynolds, David Tunbridge,
               Alan Mayne, Carol Steinberg, John Lucas & John Larmouth.

The top four in each block qualify for the Quarter-finals in March.

                    Nine players came on Wednesday, 16th Dec.  with the following results:
1st: Alan Mayne 90 pts. 2nd: Jane Wilkinson 80 pts. 3rd: Margaret Moss 80 pts.
Overall, after 6 weeks, David Tunbridge has 408 pts., Margaret Russell has 394 pts. and Alan Mayne has 389 pts.



Only nine players turned up on Sunday, 13th December, and the overall handicap winner was Barry McKenzie, who won all four of his games. But the highlight of the day was Colin Irwin's 12 hoop 2-ball break to beat Ian Lines in the advanced final.


16 players turned out to play on a lovely sunny Wednesday, 9th December.

Overall scores: David Tunbridge 408 pts. Janice Moir 380 pts. Alan Mayne 352 pts.
Sunday's one ball goes ahead but frost is forecast for Saturday night.




John Lucas won Wednesday's 1-Ball competition of 11th November.
Results: 1st. John Lucas 94 pts.

=2nd. Margaret Russell 91 pts.
=2nd. Alan Mayne 91 pts.
Overall: David Tunbridge leads with 322 pts.,
Janice Moir is on 316 pts. and David Holland has 314pts.

The 18 players held a 2 minutes' silence at 11.00 and then enjoyed a pleasant day's croquet in the sunshine.





Ten players turned up for the Sunday 1-ball handicap event on 8th November where four games were played by each of the players.
  Results: 1st. Pam Sword 93 pts.
2nd. David Holland 83 pts.
3rd. Steve Reynolds 68 pts.
A minute's silence was held at 11 a.m. before play commenced.



On Wednesday, 4th November, 16 players turned up and the first 3 places were as follows: 1st. Joan Spilsbury 92 pts., 2nd. Steve Reynolds 83 pts., 3rd. Pam Sword 81 pts.  Overall, after 3 weeks play, David Tunbridge leads with 257 pts, Janice Moir is second with 247 pts. and David Holland is third on 245 pts. 




At the 1-ball competition on Wednesday 28th October, 21 players turned up. The winner was Margaret Russell with 99 pts, 2nd David Tunbridge 98 pts, 3rd Janice Moir 88 pts.
The weather was perfect and a
good day was had by all.
After 2 weeks of play, the overall leaders are:
David Tunbridge 193 pts, Janice Moir 170 pts, David Holland 166 pts.



The first Weekend 1-ball handicap competition on Saturday, 24th October, was attended by 11 members with handicaps ranging from  -1 to 22. Each player played 6 games, 3 either side of lunch.
There were 3 joint winners with 5 wins each (Janet Guthrie, John Lucas and Barry McKenzie). Just as everyone was finishing, Jane Wilkinson arrived with scones and an enjoyable tea was had by all.


19 members turned up for the first 1-ball Wednesday competition on 21st October, including our President and 2 new members (Brenda Swales and Anne Whalley) both making their competitive debuts. All members played 4 games of 1-ball using the normal Wednesday scoring system.
The overall result was:
1st. David Tunbridge 95 pts. 2nd. Martin Granger Brown 94 pts. 3rd. John Lucas 85 pts.
