Ian
Lines beat Phil Cordingley +17 in the final to take home the
Cavendish Clock. Brian Storey and David Walters also competed in
the event.
The rain
started to fall as the first round started at 9.30am on Saturday.
At 10.15 Dave Nick finished his match against Peter McDermott +26TP
with the rain getting heavier. At 10.30 the decision was taken to
suspend play on all lawns as the puddles were growing & it was
impossible to judge the pace of shots. An early lunch was taken
(cricket style!) in the hope that the rain would stop, but with large
puddles on all lawns play was soon suspended for the day. Dave
Nick stayed around to peg all the balls down when the rain stopped, and
eventually managed to play a game on lawn 1 at 4pm.
Play
started on Sunday at 9am, with a plan to complete the 1st round and
then move to two and a quarter hour time limits. The rain soon
resumed and mallets were being used to move water out of the way of
shots! Eventually the sun came out and having TPO'd James
Hopgood, Ian beat Dave Nick to reach the final against Phil Cordingley.
