| Southport 'B' Level Advanced
Weekend, 2nd - 3rd August The weather was mainly hot & sunny and the lawns played well, but fairly slow. Only 4 out of 50 to 60 games went to time. Richard Smith managed to get to the semi-final on Sunday morning but unfortunately lost to Lee Hartley (Fylde). The other semi was between Brian Kerr (Kenilworth) & Richard Huxley (Nottingham), won by Richard; so the final was between the business end of the handicaps of Lee (1.5) and Richard (1). It was played as a best of three final, but after one game all it was decided that there was not enough time left for the decider, so croquet's equivalent of a "penalty shoot out" took place - one ball on the corner 4 spot, the other ball anywhere on the lawn, to see how many hoops could be made on a 2-ball break from hoop 4. Richard won the tournament by getting to 2-back. |
