Three Bowdon members, Ken Cooper, John Wastell
and Roy Edwards (now at Parkstone), played in the Sidmouth 'B' Class event.
The 16 competitors were mainly from south-west country clubs and they enjoyed
a beautifully hot, sunny time on the fast, dry, seaside lawns.
Ken played Paul Pristavec from Dyffryn in the final
and managed to win by +5 to take the glass goblet first prize. Both players
had previously won 6 out of 7 games to get there, one of which saw Ken hit
in with his clips on 3 & 4 and oppo on 5 and 4-back when time was called
on the treacherous lawn 3. He had to peg out his forward ball to go 2 up and
give contact, only to see 4-back made and penult. blobbed to win +1 on time.
Ken has finally got his handicap down to 1 (again)!
John, in his first ever advanced tournament, came
equal 7th and was well pleased with 4 wins out of 8.
